Hoppers Open the Season with a 9-1 Loss to Madisonville

The Hoptown Hoppers opened the 2013 Ohio Valley League season with a 9-1 road loss to Madisonville.

The Pirates took advantage of four Hopper errors and four walks to score seven runs in the second inning.  The Hoppers scored their lone run in the eighth inning.

Former UHA infielder Matt McGowan had one of the four Hoppers hits on the evening.

Former Hopkinsville centerfielder Jarrod Perry had three hits and drove in two runs for Madisonville.

Stewart Rich didn't make it out of the second inning, allowing seven unearned runs, walking four, and committing two errors.

Aaron Mason pitched five innings of two hit baseball to get the win for the Pirates.

Hopkinsville returns to action Tuesday at Hopkinsville High School when they face Fulton.

In other OVL games, Dubois County made their league debut by rallying for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat Fulton 7-5. Catcher Rick Linton had a two-run homer for the Bombers as part of that comeback.

In Marion, Owensboro scored two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to beat Marion 4-2. Owensboro pitching held Marion to four hits and struck out six.
