Hoppers Hand Dubois County First Loss of OVL Season

Hopkinsville's bats came alive on the road as they beat Dubois County 13-4, handing the Bombers their first loss of the season.

The Hoppers banged out 10 hits and took advantage of five walks and three errors in scoring a season-high 13 runs. They had scored six total runs in their previous three games.

Leftfielder Zac Carter had three hits and scored three runs for Hoptown (2-2), while third baseman Mitch Huckaby and shortstop Brandon Boggetto each added two hits.  Matt McGowan had a hit and scored twice for the Hoppers.

The Hoppers broke the game open with four runs in the second inning and cinched the win with six runs in the eighth.

Jake Bell pitched five innings to get the win, allowing three earned runs and striking out five.
The announced attendance for the game was 2,000 people -- which would be the highest in the OVL in the past two seasons.

Despite the loss, Dubois County remains in first place with a 4-1 record -- a half-game ahead of Madisonville, who lost to Marion 9-8.  Hopkinsville is 1.5 games out of first place.

In other games Friday, Fulton beat Owensboro 4-2.

This week is a big one for the Hoppers, who have five of their next seven games at home.

Saturday night, the Hoppers will play at Madisonville.  Hopkinsville will host Owensboro Sunday and then entertain Dubois County Monday in a make-up game.  After a trip to Marion Tuesday, the Hoppers will host the Bobcats Wednesday.
