Cats For 2013-2014

With the announcement Wednesday that Julius Randle was coming to UK, most Cat fans quickly forgot the NIT first round loss to Robert Morris Tuesday night. The questions now on the mind of Big Blue Nation is “who is staying”, and “who is leaving.” Most experts believe that Nerlens Noel is headed for the NBA Draft, even with his knee surgery. After the Robert Morris loss, Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress, and Willie Cauley-Stein, all indicated that they would be back for the 2013-2014 season.

The question in the mix is Ryan Harrow. Coach Calipari has indicated that he will meet individually with the players over the next few weeks to discuss their roles with the program. It will be hard for Harrow to transfer, as he would lose a year of eligibility, since he has already transferred once, from North Carolina State of Kentucky.

Next year’s recruiting class is made up of Randle, the Harrison twins, Dakari Johnson, Marcus Lee, Derek Willis, and James Young. Plus, the Cats are still in the running for a couple of other top recruits, including Andrew Wiggins. The question would then come up about the number of scholarships available, however most believe that Jon Hood and Jarred Polson would give their scholarships up and assume walk on roles with the team.

As for the historical significance of this class, most recruiting analysts say, on paper, this is the best class in the history of college basketball, surpassing the Fab Five from Michigan.
